The
village of Santa Teresa Gallura has recent origins.
Its foundation goes back
to 1808. Vittorio
Emanuele I, the King of Italy, after continuous insistences
by Captain Magnon that led a local army, took the decision
to draw the general plan of the village. The
name of the village was chosen in tribute to Maria Teresa
of Austria, the wife of the King. The old part of the village
hits the visitor for its clear geometric organization of the
streets, with nice perfect squares and straight streets that
cross creating creating square angles. For these reasons Santa
Teresa has been called "the small Turin". At first
sight the visitors arriving from the mainland think Santa
Teresa is one of the few villages in Sardinia, settled in
a plain. But arriving from the sea you can see it is on a
rock 44mt. on the sea level.
